Driving up the California coast to see Big Sur has to be one of our favorite road trips. The views are incredible and the drive is pretty spectacular as the landscape is constantly changing. These photos were taken at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park at sunset in January. There is a parking lot once you turn into the state park or you can park along the road if you want a quick picture. There were a few photographers taking pictures here during the golden hour to get a shot of the waterfall flowing into the ocean. It was pretty cool seeing this in person and great to take in some fresh ocean air after driving the winding roads along the coast. After visiting the State Park for a short while, we continued north to get to our camp site that Pops had been to before. It was somewhat of a hidden spot so we were pretty excited to get there. We finally found the road to turn on but found that it was gated shut and we couldn't go any further. With Covid running rampant and wit...
Christmas Eve we decided to take a day trip out to Joshua Tree since it was only three hours away from our house and really nice weather for the desert park. We took Max's Lexus since we weren't going to do any overloading and we wanted a comfy ride. The park wasn't busy at all and we enjoyed some hikes in the rocky terrain.
Remy brought his rock climbing shoes and was able to do some bouldering. You could see the chalk marks on some of the rocks that people like to climb that were pretty challenging.
The rock formations were fun to explore and makes for an easy park for older or supervised kids to climb and adventure around.
After our hikes, we decided to head back home. Instead of get on the freeway, Pops decided it would be fun to take the less traveled dirt road that would take us out of the park. It was fine for the first little while, but then the road seemed a lot longer than we had expected. We were starting to get worried about the sun going down because its always more difficult navigating in the dark. Meanwhile, Max was getting a bit heated after we scraped the paint job on her Lexus while passing through some brush. Sorry mom! THEN it started raining as we were driving through a canyon turned river bed. We saw on google maps that the road would continue forward and we eventually got so deep into the river bed the sides of the "road" were taller than the car :,) While everyone was stressed at this point, we decided we were no longer on the right road because the path was so rocky we couldn't even drive through it. After turning around, we finally saw the landmark we were looking for (which was a makeshift shooting range) and the road that would get us back home. Our Christmas trip of 2020 was pretty eventful and we were glad to be home for Christmas! Feel free to watch some clips from our day trip, the documentation of us getting lost are at the end of the video.
Joshua Tree
Also, our street goes pretty wild for Christmas, the whole cul-de-sac lights up their homes and its like Disneyland in our neighborhood the whole month of December. This was the last picture I took of the day.
